Where does all this info come from?

From bootleg recordings, fan reviews and official setlists.

Do Underworld use setlists?

Until recently, Underworld were known for playing heavily improvised shows, and interviews with the band suggested that they used a large bank of tracks to choose from, and just played with the vibe of the show.

More recently, there have been pictured taken of actual setlists. In some cases, the tracks played are different to the 'official setlist' suggesting Underworld still improvise their shows to a certain extent.

How accurate is the information?

We use the information that we have available.

Some setlists may be incomplete, or incorrect. We hope that over time blanks will be filled, and information corrected.

Some of the data is open to interpretation. Some people may think that one track sounds like another, but we use collective experience to establish the best information.

Can I get recordings of the shows listed?

A lot of bootlegs recordings exist, but they are not on here sorry. If your an Underworld fan, sign up to rtsr 'boardoftrade' at rtsr.rowla.com.

What is the difference between Underworld Pre-1990 and Underworld Pre-1992?

Before 1990, Underworld recorded material as a diffferent band (with the same name) with a totally different sound (refered to in the fan community as Underworld "Mk 1").

The last releases by the band were in 1989/1990, so for the 'Song Searcher' the band is listed as Pre-1990 .

The last live performances by the band were in 1991, so for the live gigs the band is listed as Pre-1992.

During these 2 years, Underworld also released "The Hump / Groove Without A Doubt" as the new Underworld with Darren Emerson, and also recorded as Lemon Interupt.

So it's just an attempt to be factually correct.

Why is Darren Price's solo work listed in the Song Searcher, but Darren Emerson's isn't?

This is purely based on what we know about the songs. We are certain that the tracks listed under Darren Price were written by him, however they have been used in Underworld live performances as a bridge.

As time goes on, we may find out more info about any of Darren Emerson's solo work that was played live during and Underworld performance, and we will include that info. During early live performances, Darren Emerson used to DJ during the 'half time' of the show. Darren Price would also do the same.

"Bridge"?

The Underworld fan community commonly refer to the mixed links between main tracks as 'Improvs'. The term Bridge is used on the Gigography, as it is more factually correct (and is a term used by the band in 'setlists'). You could argue that all of the tracks that Underworld play are improvised, so the setlist would just be a list of 'Improvs'... but thats just stupid.

It also helps to place some tracks into a sub category. The second part of Cups (@8:20) was commonly used as a bridge during 1998/1999, and although whats was played didn't differ melodically from the album version, it was only an element that was played. So this is why there is a seperate entry in the Song Searcher as 'Cups (Bridge)'.
